William Beaumont Army Medical Center Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia (MOCA®) Program
Welcome to the William Beaumont Army Medical Center Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia (MOCA®) Program. The WBAMC MOCA® Program is endorsed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and hosted by the WBAMC Simulation Center. Designed specifically for anesthesiologists and available to civilian and military physicians, this program aims to elevate the standard of care through immersive, realistic simulation scenarios that cover a wide range of clinical scenarios. By participating in this cutting-edge program, anesthesiologists can refine their skills, stay abreast of the latest advancements in anesthesia care, and meet their maintenance certification requirements. Join us in setting a new benchmark for excellence in anesthesiology with the WBAMC MOCA® Simulation Program.
After participating in and completing the course, participants will receive 25 points that will apply to the MOCA Part 4: Improvement in Medical Practice Requirement.
A total of 6 CME points will be awarded at the completion of the course and when all requirements are completed.

- Formulate management strategies for significant hypoxemia from any cause

Technology
The WBAMC Simulation Center utilizes the CAE Healthcare "Human Patient Simulator." This represents a groundbreaking advancement in medical training technology, especially within anesthesiology. This highly sophisticated, computer-controlled manikin is engineered to respond in real-time to a wide range of medical interventions. This technology offers a level of interactivity and realism previously unattainable in medical simulation.
Designed to mimic human physiological responses, the simulator can display realistic reactions to medications commonly available to anesthesiologists in the operating room. Reactions based on drug type and dose include changes in vital signs, changes in pain/stress responses, or loss of consciousness or muscular tone. This allows anesthesiologists the ability to observe and manage the immediate effects of their interventions at the mannequin level and on the monitors. This provides a high fidelity, safe and controlled environment for learning.
Additionally, this simulator is an invaluable tool for scenario-based team training. Participants engage in complex clinical scenarios that include serious and rare complications encountered in the perioperative environment. By learning in such a realistic and dynamic setting, anesthesiologists can enhance their clinical judgment, technical skills, and teamwork abilities, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes in the real world.
The Human Patient Simulator marks a significant leap forward in medical education, offering an immersive, interactive platform that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical clinical expertise in anesthesiology.
Real World Simulated Environments
MOCA® Simulations take place in a dedicated simulation operating room in the WBAM Simulation Center. The simulation OR was designed to replicate a real-world OR as closely as possible. This environment immerses anesthesiologists in a highly realistic learning environment. The OR is equipped with a modern and fully functional anesthesia workstation. The anesthesia cart is stocked with realistic simulated medications and modern anesthesia instruments. The operating room is stocked with equipment normally found in a modern operating room.
Faculty/Staff
In addition to the technologically advanced and modern simulation environment, the WBAMC MOCA® Simulation Program is staffed and supported by a highly trained and dedicated group of professionals. Learners will interact with both civilian and active-duty anesthesiologists who have a wide breadth of anesthesia experience. MOCA® simulation instructors have trained in medical simulation at The Harvard Center for Medical Simulation and the Stanford Center for Immersive and Simulation Based Learning. WBAMC MOCA® instructors are supported by dedicated simulationist’s and PhD level educators. WBAMC Instructors and staff are dedicated to providing the highest quality and leading-edge training in anesthesia simulation.

The WBAMC MOCA course is open to all civilian and military anesthesiologists.
Tuition cost $125
This tuition fee will be paid directly to the ASA. Please bring a check or money order for 125 dollars to the American Society of Anesthesiologists Simulation Education Network. Memo: WBAMC MOCA Simulation Program (with your simulation date). An invoice will be provided.
Tuition fee does not include breakfast nor lunch. Food will be available for purchase at the hospital cafeteria. Water and coffee will be provided.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit
CME Provider: U.S. Army Medical Command
The U.S. Army Medical Command is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a sponsor of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.
To obtain CME, participants have 45 days to claim their CME certificate.
To receive MOCA credit, participants must complete the course evaluation and practice improvement plan within three days of the course completion. Please see attached practice improvement plan template.

Cancellation Policy
The WBAMC MOCA Simulation Program reserves the right to cancel any unfilled or incompletely filled courses. Participants will be notified two weeks prior to the scheduled course date. In this scenario, participants will have the option of receiving a full refund or transferring their enrollment to the next available course date.
Dispute Resolution
Participant disputes and concerns will initially be addressed by the WBAMC MOCA simulation administrator. If the dispute is not resolved at the administrator level, it will then be elevated to the program director. If the dispute is not resolved at the program director level, the dispute will be raised to the WBAMC legal department.
Participant Cancellation Policy
Cancellation notifications must be received by email no less than 60 days prior to the scheduled event. A full refund will be provided if notification is provided 60 days from the event.
A $50.00 processing fee will be charged for cancellations 59-31 days from the event. The fee will be donated to the ASA Simulation Education Network.
Cancellations made within 30 days of the event date will not be refunded. The complete tuition fee ($125) will then be donated to the ASA Simulation Education Network.
